2015 Riviera Nayarit Triathlon Course

The next to last stop for the National Triathlon Series, endorsed by the Mexican Triathlon Federation, will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2015, with the 1st Annual Riviera Nayarit Triathlon Course in Litibú, Punta de Mita, organized by Vive + Sport.

This competition, which will result in the selection of the 48 athletes that will race in the 2016 World Triathlon Series, arrives at the Destination thanks to the support and facilities accorded by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), the Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo, or National Tourism Trust (Fonatur, by its acronym in Spanish), the Government of the State of Nayarit and the Banderas Bay City Council, as well as the host hotel, Iberostar Playa Mita, and other sponsors.

“We want this to be a permanent event for the Destination, as with the Half Marathon and the Open Water Swim; we hope this is the case,” commented Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit CVB. “I like the fact that Vive + Sport looks for events with a purpose, this way we can put something aside to go towards the preservation of the Islas Marietas.”

Five hundred and fifty-five triathletes are expected to participate, a number that grows to 2,500 when taking into consideration family, friends and trainers. There is a purse with 100 thousand pesos in prizes for the winners in the professional Elite category.

There are 13 Olympic categories including a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike ride and a 10K race for people 18+ years of age. There are 11 Sprint categories, which run half those distances and are open to participants 16+ years of age.

The swim portion will be held on the beach in front of the Iberostar, the bike portion on the avenue in front of Litibú from Higuera Blanca to Punta Mita and the foot race will be inside the Litibú development. There is also a Relay race for two or three participants with Olympic distances.

As is customary, this event in the Riviera Nayarit has the full support of the proper transportation, health and security authorities, and will take advantage of the amazing natural conditions and excellent infrastructure of the Destination.
