What to Expect at Vallarta Cemeteries for Día de Muertos

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 28, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta has registered 109 cemetery stalls for Día de Muertos, with setup on October 31 and trading November 1–2.

Licensing chief Celina Lomelí Ramírez identified 5 de Diciembre, Ramblases and El Progreso as the participating cemeteries in a municipal notice. The arrangements address a practical question for families preparing to visit graves: what will be available when they arrive?

Vendors will begin setting up on the afternoon of October 31. Stalls selling flowers, wreaths, candles, food and nonalcoholic drinks can operate November 1–2 from 8 a.m. until each cemetery closes.

The notice does not include cemetery closing times or permit prices. Treasury staff will collect vendor permit payments at the entrances, including from sellers arriving on the day.

Musicians entering to work must carry a current union credential signed by the municipal licensing office, or a valid street-vending permit.

The preparations extend beyond commerce. In an earlier report on cemetery readiness, municipal cemetery chief Santos Aristóteles Mercado Orozco said crews had been cleaning the grounds since August. Work includes removing deteriorated flowers and candles, collecting debris, pruning trees, and clearing weeds.

Officials expect more than 30,000 visitors across the five municipal cemeteries on November 1–2. Civil Protection and Firefighters will coordinate with municipal public safety personnel to respond to emergencies and help visitors move through the grounds.

For residents combining a cemetery visit with other holiday activities, Vallarta Daily’s Día de Muertos calendar and costs guide covers the wider festival program.

Food vendors have additional safety requirements. Stalls using LP gas must use cylinders no larger than 20 kilograms, protect cooking areas and have a dry-chemical fire extinguisher.

The trading notice also requires vendors to “keep pedestrian access clear at all times,” leaving walking routes open as families enter, shop, and visit graves.
