Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 30, 2026 — Five neighborhood collection points will accept used cooking oil today, Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the municipal Eco-le program.
Residents can deliver oil left over from cooking, but it should be completely cool before being placed in a tightly closed plastic bottle. That gives households a way to dispose of accumulated oil without pouring it into the kitchen sink.
The collection announcement identifies five locations, all with the same hours.
- La Aurora: Glorieta del Pescador on Avenida Universo, beside the SEAPAL pumping station.
- Lomas del Calvario: Domo de La Lija, the covered recreation area on Calle Pablo Franco.
- Ramblases: Juan Escutia elementary school on Calle Puerto Tampico, at Puerto de Veracruz.
- Tamarindos: Unidad Deportiva sports complex on Calle Flamingo, at Pelícano.
- 5 de Diciembre: Mercado del Mar on Calle San Salvador, at Brasilia.
The municipal Social Participation Department and Ecological Guard are organizing the drive. Organizers recommend using a clean, sturdy plastic bottle and keeping the oil separate from water, detergents, and other substances. A secure cap helps prevent spills during the trip.
The reason for collecting it separately starts with the pipes beneath homes and streets. SEAPAL, Puerto Vallarta’s water and sewer utility, has warned against putting fats and oils into sinks or drains, explaining that these residues “solidify and adhere to pipes,” in an English translation of its statement. The buildup reduces the space available for wastewater to flow and encourages blockages.
SEAPAL has also identified grease accumulation as a problem in Centro, Emiliano Zapata and Versalles, where some sewer infrastructure is about 40 years old. Its guidance for food businesses calls for grease traps and regular maintenance to intercept those residues before they enter the network.
For households participating today, the immediate step is simpler: let the oil cool, close the bottle securely, and drop it off at one of the five sites before collection ends at 2 p.m.
