Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, November 5, 2026 — Porter Airlines launched nonstop Edmonton–Puerto Vallarta flights November 3, adding three weekly services for the winter season.
Flights operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through April 10, 2027. The inaugural arrival carried 113 passengers, Jalisco’s Tourism Ministry said in a November 4 announcement.
For Canadians arranging a winter stay, visiting relatives or heading back to Alberta, the immediate change is another airline to compare for a nonstop journey. The operating days also give travelers specific dates to plan accommodation and airport pickups.
More choice between Edmonton and Vallarta
Porter joins an established nonstop market. Edmonton International Airport’s destination directory also lists WestJet and Flair Airlines serving Puerto Vallarta. Passengers can compare the three carriers’ available flights for their travel dates.
The new service uses 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 jets, according to the airline’s launch announcement. Porter says the aircraft have no middle seats and offer free Wi-Fi, details that may influence the choice alongside the fare and departure day.
At three arrivals a week, the published capacity works out to 396 inbound seats in a full operating week.
Vallarta Daily reported the planned Edmonton route in May. This week’s development puts that previously announced connection into operation.
A western Canadian addition to Porter’s network
Edmonton becomes Porter’s fourth direct connection to Puerto Vallarta, alongside Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton, according to Jalisco’s Tourism Ministry. This is the airline’s second season serving Vallarta.
For Porter, the flight also marks the start of international service from Alberta. The airline’s November expansion from Edmonton includes Phoenix, Los Cabos and Las Vegas.
“The new Edmonton service expands travel options from Canada to Puerto Vallarta and strengthens our connectivity during winter,” Omar Torres Grajeda, director of Puerto Vallarta International Airport, said in the launch announcement.
For local accommodation providers and other businesses serving Canadian visitors, the route creates additional capacity during winter. How much that benefits hotels, rentals and restaurants will depend on passenger bookings and spending.
The seasonal end date also matters when arranging a longer stay. Someone remaining in Vallarta until late April, for example, will need to check return options beyond Porter’s announced Edmonton schedule, which ends Saturday, April 10.
