Tropical Storm Howard becomes eighth names storm

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Howard was located near latitude 16.1 North, longitude 122.9 West. Howard is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast today and Tuesday morning. Gradual weakening is expected to begin by Tuesday night and Wednesday when Howard moves over cooler water.
