Tropical Storm Simon Expected to Become Hurricane Today

Tropical Storm Simon formed off the coast of the Mexican Pacific, expected to become a hurricane by Saturday, creates the potential for intense torrential rains and high waves along the West Coast of Mexico, the National Weather Service warns.

The agency reports that at 3:00 AM, Simon was 420 kilometers (260 miles) southwest of Puerto Vallarta, in the state of Jalisco.

The weather system is moving at 7 km/h with sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusting at 100 km/h.
