PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – Local users and merchants from Playa de Oro in Puerto Vallarta have raised alarms over a recent incident involving a discharge, believed to be sewage, directly into the sea. Videos capturing this incident have been circulating on various social media platforms.
The shared footage depicts dark gray water forcefully flowing from a hole in the beach area. Witnesses at the scene also reported an unmistakable and repugnant odor emanating from the spot, intensifying concerns over the nature of the discharge.
Intriguingly, several beachgoers recalled observing individuals digging the aforementioned hole a few hours before the disturbing event transpired. While the identity of those responsible for the hole remains unclear, there is growing speculation among the local community. Some suggest that workers from nearby condominiums might be behind this action, claiming they dug the hole to allow the water to discharge into the sea.
The timeline of events indicates that shortly after the hole was created, rain ensued, which possibly expedited the release of the questionable water. Following the discharge, nature took its course as waves rolled in, eventually covering the hole.
Drawing further concerns is the recent closure of the neighboring Holli Beach. Currently off-limits to the public, the beach reported dangerously high levels of enterococci, a type of bacteria indicative of fecal contamination. These fecal particles in the water pose a significant health risk to potential swimmers and bathers.
The incident at Playa de Oro, combined with the issues at Holli Beach, underscores the urgency for environmental and health assessments in the area. Local authorities are being urged to launch a thorough investigation to ascertain the source and extent of the pollution, ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and tourists alike.
