New Government Owned Airline Set to Begin Flights to Puerto Vallarta in November

PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently announced that the revived airline, Mexicana de Aviación, will start operations in November, with Puerto Vallarta being one of its 20 domestic destinations. Flights will be departing from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport.

The declaration came during the President’s fifth governmental report, where he shed light on the advancements and accomplishments of his administration over the past five years. He noted the crucial role played by the Navy and the Defense Secretariat in various developmental projects, which include the creation of ecological parks, hotel construction, dockyards, and railways for the Mayan Train and the Istmo and Southeast Railway.

Furthermore, he elaborated on the anticipated operation of the airline, terming it as a significant event. “Starting in November, Mexicana de Aviación will take to the skies again,” he affirmed. However, the exact commencement date remains unspecified.

Following the government’s acquisition of the Mexicana de Aviación brand, the airline is poised to relaunch its services to 20 domestic destinations, utilizing ten leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The destinations include prominent cities and tourist spots such as Cancún, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Mérida, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Los Cabos, and Oaxaca.

While the Felipe Ángeles International Airport will serve as the primary hub for the airline’s operations, the Tulum International Airport in Quintana Roo is designated as a secondary base.

In a bid to provide competitive airfare, the new airline promises ticket prices to be approximately 20% lower than other airlines. These flights will offer single-class seating. However, this pricing comparison is based on other airlines’ “regular” rates. It is pertinent to mention that several airlines, including Volaris and Viva Aerobus, regularly announce promotional offers that occasionally price their flights even cheaper than domestic buses.

The re-emergence of Mexicana de Aviación is being keenly observed by the industry and travelers alike, as it signifies a significant milestone in Mexico’s aviation sector.
