Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a harrowing incident, a man fishing for shrimp in the Ameca River, San José del Valle, Nayarit, suffered a devastating attack by a crocodile, resulting in the loss of his arm. The traumatic event unfolded over the weekend near the Jardines del Sol subdivision, where the fisherman was conducting his routine activities.
Initial reports indicate that the man was unexpectedly assaulted by the crocodile mere minutes after entering the river. The violent encounter led to a severe injury, with the reptile’s bite causing the amputation of the fisherman’s arm.
Responding swiftly to the emergency, paramedics and municipal police provided immediate assistance to the injured individual. He was rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical care. The fisherman received treatment at the IMSS 33 clinic in Nayarit.
Efforts by the authorities to apprehend the crocodile were unsuccessful, as the animal retreated into the depths of the river and avoided capture. Subsequent actions to locate and capture the crocodile are ongoing. There has been no final decision regarding the fate of the crocodile, whether it will be relocated or euthanized.
This incident is not isolated in its nature. The region recently witnessed another disturbing crocodile attack in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. There, a crocodile was seen carrying human remains in its snout, roaming the streets of the Las Juntas district.
A young witness reported this alarming sight to the authorities. Upon arrival, rescue teams discovered a human body in an advanced state of decomposition, missing a hand – presumably consumed by the crocodile. The remains were transported to the Forensic Medical Service for identification and to further the ongoing investigations.
These consecutive incidents have raised concerns about wildlife encounters in the region, prompting local authorities to urge residents and visitors to exercise caution near water bodies known to be habitats for crocodiles. The community remains vigilant as investigations and efforts to manage the local crocodile population continue.
