Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Members of the Green Patrol from the Citizen Security Police Station in Puerto Vallarta successfully captured a crocodile measuring just over three meters in length that had ventured onto the streets of Marina Vallarta.
The swift intervention unfolded during a routine patrol by officers of unit PV-314 at the intersection of Albatros and Pelícanos streets. To their surprise, they encountered the reptile right in the middle of a public street. Responding swiftly to the situation at hand, the officers cordoned off the area and promptly called for assistance from the Firefighters and the specialized Green Patrol personnel, renowned for their expertise in managing wildlife encounters.
Upon assessing the situation, the team, armed with ropes, embarked on the challenging task of safely capturing the crocodile. The creature, which sported registration number 21, was secured and successfully contained by the authorities.
Remarkably, a thorough examination revealed that the captured crocodile was in good health. Subsequently, the Ecology authorities were notified, and a collective decision was made to release the reptile into its natural habitat, along the banks of the Ameca River.
This incident serves as a stark reminder to the public about the importance of maintaining a safe distance of at least ten meters in case of encountering a crocodile. Authorities emphasize that approaching, throwing objects, or attempting to feed these animals can pose significant risks. Instead, the population is strongly encouraged to promptly notify the authorities when such sightings occur, allowing them to respond appropriately and ensure the safety of both citizens and wildlife.
Commissioner of Citizen Security, Rigoberto Flores Parra, stressed the significance of ongoing training in species management, particularly in the case of crocodiles. He underscored the commitment to providing continuous training and courses for officers to safeguard both wildlife and the public, thereby preventing any potential incidents involving these animals.
This successful intervention by the Green Patrol demonstrates the dedication of authorities in Puerto Vallarta to preserve the harmony between humans and the local wildlife, ensuring a safe coexistence for all.
