Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Mota-Engil México has announced the completion and opening of a 29-kilometer stretch of the Jala-Vallarta highway between Compostela and Las Varas in Nayarit, offering access to an estimated one million vacationers heading to the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta for the Holy Week. This strategic move, timed with the onset of Easter holidays, is expected to significantly enhance the economic and tourism landscape of the region.
The construction firm revealed that the section’s inauguration was led by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), marking a pivotal moment in the state’s infrastructure development. The newly opened Compostela-Las Varas section commenced operations at 2:30 p.m. this Wednesday, allowing travelers free passage.
Tourism authorities and industry stakeholders from both Jalisco and Nayarit are optimistic, forecasting the arrival of over one million tourists to the coastal delights of Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta during the festive period. The highway is anticipated to serve motorists from Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, and Guadalajara, offering substantial time savings and enhancing connectivity between major tourist destinations in the area.
Previously, the journey from Compostela to Las Varas took over 50 minutes via the old route. The new highway segment reduces this travel time to approximately 20 minutes, streamlining access to the region’s attractions and services. A notable feature of the highway is the Las Truchas bridge, spanning 433 meters with a height of 75 meters, connecting the Jala-Compostela-Las Varas route. This architectural marvel, bridging two hills in the municipality of San Pedro Lagunillas, represents a significant engineering achievement.
Mota-Engil México highlighted their efforts to expedite the project’s completion to avail the new route for the holiday season, demonstrating a commitment to improving the travel experience for users. Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro of Nayarit praised the initiative, stating, “This work is synonymous with tangible transformation, as the state’s infrastructure guarantees the progress of Nayarit.”
The timely inauguration of the Compostela-Las Varas section is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the government and private sector in fostering economic growth and tourism in Nayarit and its neighboring regions. As visitors and locals alike benefit from the improved infrastructure, the positive impacts on the region’s development and appeal as a top holiday destination are expected to be profound.
