Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — Early Thursday morning, heavy rains caused significant disruptions along Federal Highway 200 Sur, resulting in fallen trees and landslides within the municipality of Cabo Corrientes.
According to the municipal Civil Protection department, the intense rainfall, which exceeded 150 mm³ of water per square meter, led to the incidents between kilometers 193 and 194 of the highway. The affected area is near the town of Las Juntas and Los Veranos, close to the border with Puerto Vallarta.
Municipal Civil Protection personnel were promptly dispatched to the site to address the situation. They have been working diligently to clear the fallen trees and debris. Heavy machinery is being utilized to expedite the cleanup process and restore normal traffic flow.
The Civil Protection Department has issued a warning to motorists, urging them to exercise caution while driving, particularly during and after rainfall. They emphasized that such weather conditions increase the risk of falling trees, landslides, and mudslides, posing significant hazards to travelers.
“We advise all motorists to be extra careful and to stay informed about road conditions during this rainy season,” a spokesperson for the department stated on social media.
