Arrest Made in Connection to the Murder of Activist Irma Fregoso Ortiz in Puerto Vallarta

PUERTO VALLARTA, JALISCO – The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of prominent activist Irma Fregoso Ortiz. Rodrigo P. has been apprehended under suspicion of committing the femicide, which took place on July 15th in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood.

The incident was reported at approximately 11:08 a.m. when authorities received a call regarding a wounded woman at the intersection of Nicaragua and Colombia streets. Upon arrival, first responders found the victim, identified as Irma Fregoso Ortiz, with visible gunshot wounds, including one to the face. She was immediately transported to a Mexican Social Security Institute clinic for emergency medical treatment, but despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest through a social media post, stating, “The State Prosecutor’s Office executed an arrest warrant against Rodrigo P. for his probable responsibility in the femicide of activist Irma Fregoso, events that occurred in Puerto Vallarta, for which he will be placed at the disposal of the judge who requires it.”

Irma Fregoso Ortiz was a dedicated advocate and served as the vice president of the Puerto Vallarta chapter of the 50+1 organization, a group committed to promoting women’s rights and gender equality.
