PUERTO VALLARTA, JALISCO—A homeless man was discovered dead early this morning on one of the benches in the Plaza de Armas, directly in front of Puerto Vallarta City Hall.
Authorities were alerted to the situation at approximately 7:00 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, Municipal Police officers confirmed that the individual had no vital signs. Paramedics were then requested, who examined the body and certified the death.
Following standard procedure, Municipal Police secured the area with caution tape, and the Public Ministry agent was notified. The agent ordered the necessary records to be taken and instructed officials to wait for the arrival of the Investigative Police and personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) to remove the body.
Tourist Police officers also carried out relevant procedures to assist in preserving the scene. The identity of the deceased man has not yet been confirmed. His body has been placed at the disposal of the proper authorities for further investigation and to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Local officials have not released additional details pending notification of the man’s relatives, if identified. An autopsy will be conducted by SEMEFO to establish the cause of death, and authorities urge anyone with information about the individual to come forward.
