PUERTO VALLARTA, Jalisco — A convenience store located in the city’s popular tourist zone was closed on March 9 for repeated violations of the municipal garbage collection schedule. The Directorate of Inspection, Surveillance and Civil Liability took action against Cadena Comercial OXXO SA de CV, situated at 2044 Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard in the Diaz Ordaz neighborhood, citing improper disposal of solid waste on public roads.
Municipal officials first inspected the establishment on March 6 under Visit Order and Inspection Report number 0041/2025. According to the Directorate, “the establishment called OXXO was caught red-handed with garbage bags outside its premises and in a public street, outside of the authorized collection hours.” Following that inspection, a report was issued warning the store of potential closure if the violations continued.
The agency cites Article 86, Section III of the Ecology Regulations for the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, as well as Article 229, Section VII of the Regulations for the Exercise of Commerce, Operation of Service Provision Businesses, Markets, Events and Shows in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, in explaining why the closure was warranted.
Upon executing the closure on March 9, officials reissued the Visit Order and Inspection Report, both under folio number 0189/2025. Staff at the scene requested the municipal operating license and reiterated the rules regarding timely trash disposal. They also noted that the establishment had received a previous citation for the same infraction, including photos and videos documenting the violation.
“Because this constitutes a repeat offense, and the trash was again taken out outside of the scheduled time despite the warning bell, the establishment is now subject to closure,” the municipal agency stated.
The Directorate of Inspection, Surveillance and Civil Liability emphasized the importance of complying with the garbage collection schedule and keeping public spaces clean, especially in tourist areas, where maintaining a positive image is crucial.
