Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The North Coast and Costaelegre region of Jalisco continue to grapple with devastating wildfires, as at least four active conflagrations ravage the landscape, threatening hundreds of hectares across the municipalities of Cabo Corrientes and Tomatlán.
According to the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Firefighting Unit (UEPCBJ), firefighting teams have been battling the fires since early Wednesday. The blaze in the Arrayanera area, straddling the border between Cabo Corrientes and Tomatlán, remains one of the most challenging to contain, as do the fires in Palos Blancos (located in Cabo Corrientes), Cajón de Peña, and Terreros in Tomatlán.
Efforts to control the situation have mobilized a diverse team of 140 forest firefighters from various agencies. Crews from Jalisco Civil Protection, Conafor, Sedena, Semadet, Jico Sur, municipal units, and local volunteers are working in tandem. Their operations are bolstered by 24 vehicles strategically deployed across the affected zones, alongside the use of a helicopter to monitor the advancing fires and coordinate the containment strategy.
Authorities continue to assess the situation and deploy additional resources as needed, while urging local residents to stay alert and heed safety instructions. The environmental and economic impacts of these fires are yet to be fully determined, but officials emphasize that preventing further damage is their top priority.
