According to the Alliance, incidences of counterfeit currency and credit card cloning typically rise during these holiday periods, and preventive measures can help safeguard both commerce and personal finances.
In the face of increased circulation of counterfeit bills, the AMESYC advises inspecting all notes carefully. Look for distinctive security features such as watermarks, color-changing elements, and perfect registration. Tools like detector pens or ultraviolet lights can also provide a crucial extra layer of verification. Should an individual present what appears to be fake currency, ask them to use another bill; if they resist or become aggressive, avoid confrontation and immediately contact the authorities by dialing 911.
AMESYC stresses that if a suspicious bill is discovered without prior verification, it is essential not to pass it along to someone else. Doing so could worsen financial losses and potentially lead to legal consequences.
