Alvin becomes the first named storm of the 2019 Pacific Hurricane Season

At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Alvin was located near latitude 14.7 North, longitude 109.4 West. Alvin is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h). A westward to west-northwestward motion with some decrease in forwarding speed is expected over the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next day or so. Weakening is forecast to begin on Friday, and Alvin is expected to become a remnant low on Saturday.
