Having issues with the PVDN app saying you have 3 free reads left? Update the app now!
Please update your Android PVDN app now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvnews.app
The issue where some App users saw a message that they had used their three free reads has been fixed in the latest update.
What is causing this error?
- Users who have updated their phone or use a phone ‘junk cleaner’ may be erasing their login session. Every time you log in to a website, a small amount of data is stored on your phone or computer that allows the site to recognize your device as an authorized login. If that bit of data is deleted, the site does not authenticate you as a subscriber. You need to reauthenticate by logging in again.
- Another reason this might happen is if you share your username and password with another user, which is against the terms of use. If the system records too many active login sessions, it will restrict access until you log out of all other open sessions in your account. It is best not to share your username and password with anyone.
- Lastly, many people who have reported this issue have actually allowed their subscription to expire.
What is fixed in the latest update?
If your login session has been erased from your device (1), or you have shared your username and password and have excessive login sessions on multiple devices (2), you will no longer see the error about three free reads. Instead, you will just see a prompt to log in. The confusion arose from the message that you had used your three free reads, rather than telling you to log in. That was a leftover message from our original development that allowed app users to access 3 free articles per month without a subscription. We ultimately abandoned that feature because the commission Google wants for subscriptions in the app would have meant increasing our subscription costs by 50%. Now you will no longer see the three free reads message.
What if I cannot read a full article in the app in the future?
If there is a time you cannot read a full article in the app, first, go to the app settings tab. If it has a login form, you need to log in. If there is only a logout button, you should log out and log back in to the app. If you log out and log back in to the app and still cannot read the article, it is almost certain your subscription has expired, and you need to manage your account on the website, not the app. https://www.vallartadaily.com/my-account/
iOS/Apple update
As many users know, we have been very vocal about how difficult it is to work with the Apple team and their App Store. It took them six months to approve our original app, but Google approved it in three days. We have submitted the updated fix to Apple, but we cannot tell you when, or if, the update will be published.
