Colocan Primer Collar GPS a un Jaguar en Riviera Nayarit

El pasado 21 de diciembre de 2015, Alianza Jaguar A.C. logró concretar la colocación del primer collar GPS a un jaguar en la Sierra de Vallejo, enclavada en el “corazón” de la Riviera Nayarit. Con esto se ha dado un importante paso, entre otras cosas, para definir los pasos de fauna de la Carretera Jala-Bahía de Banderas.

“Fue un gran reto porque de por sí capturar un animal de esas magnitudes con todos los cuidados que se requieren para que no se lastime, colocar el collar y liberarlo es un desafío fuerte, hay que sumarle que llovió los días anteriores, lo que modificó los planes, pero finalmente se logró”, compartió el director de Alianza Jaguar A.C., Erik Saracho.

Este fue el tercer esfuerzo de trampeo que han realizado para la colocación de los cinco collares GPS anunciados. Cabe destacar que en el segundo esfuerzo se logró colocar el dispositivo a un puma, especie que también es un depredador tope, con menor movilidad pero sumamente útil para el ecosistema por su capacidad de selector natural.

Para esta acción se contó con el apoyo del biólogo Dr. Rodrigo Núñez, el veterinario Octavio López, el fotógrafo de vida silvestre Alejandro Prieto y el experto en rastreo de jaguares Antonio Rivera, quienes vinieron de diferentes ciudades del país.

También es de señalar la participación de los guías locales y ejidatarios, quienes son los que conocen mejor la zona, garantizando así la seguridad y el éxito de los participantes.
A unos días del logro, el ejemplar ya se ha movido casi 3 kilómetros, el collar está funcionando bien e intenta mandar siete puntos diarios de monitoreo, dependiendo de las condiciones.

“La información que nosotros estamos sacando, tenemos el compromiso de ponerla en manos de la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) y la Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) de inmediato, para contrastarla con la manifestación de impacto ambiental que ellos tienen”, agregó Saracho.

La Oficina de Visitantes y Convenciones de la Riviera Nayarit felicita a Alianza Jaguar A.C., por este esfuerzo sin precedentes en Nayarit.

Finalmente, Erik Saracho indicó que será entre el 15 y 25 de enero de 2016 cuando se esté realizando el cuarto esfuerzo de trampeo para continuar la colocación de los tres collares GPS restantes.
