CUCosta increases security after campus threats
The Centro Universitario de la Costa reinforced surveillance on Thursday after threatening messages found on campus referred to May 21.
The Puerto Vallarta campus of the University of Guadalajara said academic and administrative activities continued as scheduled. The university also reported preventive patrols inside and around the campus.
The messages were found on May 14 and May 18. One was found in bathrooms in Building M. Another was found in bathrooms near the mini auditorium of the Lic. Raúl Padilla López Library.
The second message referred to a possible shooting on May 21. Campus officials reported it to 911 so security authorities could collect evidence and open an investigation.
Surveillance added at entrances and inside campus
CUCosta said surveillance was reinforced around the campus starting Wednesday night. On Thursday, the university reported monitoring at campus entrances.
University personnel were also assigned to patrol inside the facilities. The campus said it remained in coordination with security authorities.
The university asked students, teachers, and administrative staff to remain calm. It also asked them to report anything unusual through official channels.
No arrests reported
Authorities had not reported arrests or identified suspects connected to the messages.
The university has not reported a suspension of classes or administrative services tied to the May 21 threat.
CUCosta is located in the Ixtapa area of Puerto Vallarta. The campus serves students from Puerto Vallarta and nearby communities.
