The lineup spans Halloween-themed voyages, a Very Merrytime holiday cruise, and a 14-night Panama Canal journey. Disney cruises to Puerto Vallarta
Disney’s fall 2026 and early 2027 schedules put Puerto Vallarta back on prime itineraries from San Diego. The Disney Wonder sails a seven-night Halloween on the High Seas voyage October 3–10, 2026 (from $3,171 for two); a Very Merrytime seven-night cruise December 22–29, 2026 (from $5,201 for two); and three seven-night runs February 5–12, March 12–19, and April 23–30, 2027 (from $3,066, $3,290, and $3,108 for two, respectively). Each calls at Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, and Ensenada.
Disney is also sending the Disney Magic to the Mexican Riviera with a seven-night Halloween on the High Seas cruise October 30–November 6, 2026 (from $3,241 for two), and an epic 14-night Eastbound Panama Canal voyage November 6–20, 2026 that includes Puerto Vallarta en route to Galveston (from $5,458 for two). What these itineraries include
The Halloween sailings bring ship-wide décor, costumed character meet-and-greets, themed shows, and trick-or-treating—Disney’s formula that reliably sells out West Coast dates. The December Very Merrytime cruise layers on holiday stage productions, tree-lighting, carols, and seasonal menus. These are standard Disney offerings on the Wonder and Magic during fall and winter, now timed with strong late-year demand on the Pacific coast.
The Panama Canal transit adds a different pitch. Two weeks at sea mixes Mexico’s Pacific ports—Cabo and Puerto Vallarta—with the Canal crossing, Cartagena, Grand Cayman, and a finish in Galveston. It’s the rare repositioning trip that still gives Vallarta a full-day call before the ship heads south.
What to expect in port
Disney advertises a wide slate of Port Adventures in Puerto Vallarta, from mellow bay cruises to evening spectacle at Rhythms of the Night, plus city tours that hit the Malecón and the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Independent operators offer similar outings, but DCL-vetted excursions add the convenience and guarantee most families want.
Puerto Vallarta’s modern Puerto Mágico terminal area has been expanding since before the pandemic, improving arrivals and making it easier for day-trippers to reach town or the beaches. Expect crowds when multiple ships call the same day, but transfers into the city are straightforward.
Why this matters for Vallarta
Cruise spending is brief but real. Mexico’s tourism authorities put average cruise passenger expenditure at about US$83.90 per person in recent reporting. For a full Disney call—often a couple thousand guests—those purchases of tours, tacos, and souvenirs help keep guides and small shops busy in the shoulder season.
Mexico also introduced a phased cruise passenger tax starting July 2025 at US$5 per visitor, scheduled to rise over several years. Lines are folding the charge into the taxes and port fees you see in the fare breakdown, so most travelers will never pay it separately. The compromise rate replaced a shelved plan for a much higher flat fee after industry pushback.
Booking basics and ship size
The Disney Wonder and Disney Magic are sister ships with around 1,754 guests at double occupancy and classic layouts that work well for West Coast families. They’re smaller than today’s megaships, which helps with port logistics in Vallarta and can shorten disembark times for shore tours. As always, the “from” prices are entry-level and move with demand; booking early tends to lock better rates and cabin choice.
