Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Sept. 13, 2026 – Downtown street closures and bus diversions will begin Monday morning for Puerto Vallarta’s Día del Charro parade, with transit changes starting at 8 a.m.
A municipal traffic advisory says Centro-bound buses will be diverted at Calle Perú and Calle Panamá at 8 a.m.
Calle Morelos will close at Calle Corona at 8:30 a.m. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Calle Ignacio L. Vallarta.
How drivers and passengers will be routed
Centro-bound buses will turn back north at Perú and Panamá in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood. The diversion begins two hours before the parade’s scheduled start.
Drivers traveling south on Morelos will be directed uphill on Corona to Calle Juárez. Juárez will carry two-way traffic between Corona and Agustín Rodríguez.
Vehicles reaching Agustín Rodríguez will continue uphill toward Calle Insurgentes, according to the published traffic plan.
The changes will affect the usual approach to Puerto Vallarta’s Historic Center. Bus passengers traveling toward Centro or the Romantic Zone should expect their regular route to stop short of downtown.
City officials advised motorists and transit passengers to leave early, use alternate routes and follow directions from traffic officers. Sunday’s notice did not provide a fixed reopening time.
Parade route through downtown Puerto Vallarta
The procession will begin on Calle Ignacio L. Vallarta before continuing along Calle Juárez. It will then use Agustín Rodríguez, Insurgentes and Avenida México.
The parade will end on Avenida México near the Ley supermarket. The city’s broader Fiestas Patrias program identifies the Malecón as the main parade venue and confirms the 10 a.m. start.
Anyone with a Monday morning appointment, work shift or hotel transfer in Centro should allow additional travel time. Parking and vehicle access will be limited along the controlled streets.
Día del Charro and the holiday schedule
Sept. 14 is Día Nacional del Charro. A federal government account of the observance says the date recognizes the people who preserve Mexico’s charro tradition.
UNESCO added charrería to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.
Monday’s parade is part of Puerto Vallarta’s four-day Independence Day program. Events continue Tuesday with the Grito de Independencia at 11 p.m. and fireworks at 11:30 p.m.
