PUERTO VALLARTA, JALISCO — An earthquake registering a magnitude of 4.1 was recorded near Puerto Vallarta at 11:58 a.m. Central Time (17:58 UTC) on April 5, according to preliminary information from the National Seismological Service (SSN). The quake’s epicenter was located approximately 61 kilometers southwest of the city, at a depth of 11.6 kilometers.
Authorities in Jalisco have not reported any major damage or injuries at this time. Nonetheless, local officials urged residents and visitors to stay vigilant and follow standard safety precautions. Although quakes of this magnitude rarely cause significant structural damage, many locals and tourists reportedly felt mild tremors.
Seismologists from the SSN are continuing to monitor aftershock activity and will provide updated information as it becomes available. Given Jalisco’s location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is seismically active, small to moderate earthquakes are not uncommon in the region.
