For the third year in a row, El Circo de los Niños (The Children’s Circus), headquartered in San Pancho, the Cultural Capital of the Riviera Nayarit, is ready to present their big show. This year, the title of the presentation is “Dar a Luz,” or “Giving Birth.”
Showtime on both March 19th and 20th is at 7:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. on March 21st. The event has the full support of the Groups Department of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, as it is the only one of its kind for miles around and it reinforces the cultural tourism to the destination.
There will be more than 70 children on stage ranging from eight to 17 years of age; these young artists are ready to show off the fruits of many months of labor under the watchful eye of Gilles Ste-Croix, founder of the Circo de los Niños and co-founder of the Cirque du Soleil.
The date is in the Bodega Circo, a recently renovated space for the practice of circus activities created with this project in mind. It is located next to the Bodega 3 on the Avenida Tercer Mundo, which is the main entrance to the village.
“Everything that I have learned will help me to teach others, to be able to start my own business when I’m old enough or even join a professional circus and have my own career,” said Jesús García Martínez, a young 14-year-old acrobat in the Circo de los Niños, who has been learning for free since he was seven years old at this non-profit project that sustains itself through donations and fund-raising events.
“I started with the summer lessons at Entre Amigos, and one day they said there was going to be a circus and from that moment on I’ve been doing it for most of my life. They really supported me, my life has changed for the better because before there was nothing to do and now all us kids in the community are practicing art and I like it,” added the teen.
