Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 19, 2026 – The family of 34-year-old Sammy Daniel Pérez Rojas is asking people across Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco to help locate him after losing contact with him on July 31.
Relatives say Pérez Rojas is experiencing a crisis and needs medical attention, raising concern that he could be especially vulnerable while alone. Their public appeal includes several photographs taken at different times to help people recognize him.
The family identifies Pérez Rojas as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. That service history has not been independently verified by Jalisco authorities. However, security officials confirmed that a disappearance complaint has been filed with Jalisco’s missing-persons prosecutor and that the case is known to personnel in Puerto Vallarta.
Pérez Rojas is approximately 1.75 meters tall, or about 5 feet 9 inches, with a thin build, brown eyes and long, straight, dark-brown hair. Family photographs show him with a short beard and mustache.
A distinctive tattoo on his left calf contains the letters R and P alongside an eagle, globe and anchor design resembling the Marine Corps emblem.
Authorities have not publicly identified the precise location in Puerto Vallarta where Pérez Rojas was last seen, what he was wearing or whether investigators have established any activity after July 31. No theory explaining his disappearance has been released.
His case became public as Puerto Vallarta’s accumulated missing-person caseload continues to rise. A Vallarta Daily review of the state registry found 568 people remained listed as missing or unlocated in the municipality in the latest available update. That figure represents unresolved cases accumulated over time, not new disappearances reported during 2026 alone.
The family asked anyone who sees Pérez Rojas or has credible information about his location to call 911. Information may also be provided to the Jalisco Search Commission at 33 1514 5422, a line staffed around the clock.
Jalisco’s missing-persons prosecutor says a disappearance may be reported as soon as someone’s whereabouts become unknown. There is no requirement to wait 72 hours.
As of Wednesday morning, authorities had not announced that Pérez Rojas had been located. His family’s request remains active.
