VallartaDaily App Help & User Guide

Welcome to the VallartaDaily App

The VallartaDaily app gives readers a cleaner, faster way to follow Puerto Vallarta and Mexico news from their phone. The app is designed for existing VallartaDaily readers and subscribers who want quick access to local news, personalized feeds, saved articles, alerts, and daily newsroom updates.

The app does not sell subscriptions through Google Play or Apple’s App Store. To read subscriber-only articles, you need a VallartaDaily account created on the website.

Getting Started

Do I need a VallartaDaily account?

You can browse headlines and some article previews without signing in, but a VallartaDaily account is required to read subscriber-only content.

To sign in:

  1. Open the app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Sign In.
  4. Enter the email address and password used for your VallartaDaily website account.

Once signed in, the app should keep you logged in unless you sign out, clear app data, reinstall the app, or your login session expires.

Main App Sections

Home

The Home tab focuses on recent Puerto Vallarta news. This is the fastest way to see the latest local stories.

The Home screen may also show emergency or urgent alerts near the top when important updates are published.

You may also see a button for Puerto Vallarta Today or Puerto Vallarta Newsdesk, which opens the daily Newsdesk Notes.

Puerto Vallarta Today / Newsdesk Notes

The Newsdesk section gives you a quick daily briefing from the VallartaDaily newsroom.

It may include:

  • What the newsroom is watching
  • What is happening in Puerto Vallarta today
  • Road closures or traffic notes
  • Public service alerts
  • Beach or ocean warnings
  • Airport and travel updates
  • Peso exchange-rate notes

This section is updated by the newsroom and may not have new information in every field every day.

My News

The My News tab is your personalized newsfeed.

Use this section to follow the locations and news categories that matter most to you. Your selected preferences help shape the stories shown in your personal feed.

You can manage these preferences from:

Settings → Personalize Your Newsfeed

Browse

The Browse tab lets you explore available news sections directly.

Current browsing options may include:

  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Mexico National News
  • San Miguel de Allende
  • Cancún
  • Playa del Carmen
  • Los Cabos
  • Ajijic and Lake Chapala
  • Mérida
  • Hurricane Updates
  • Emergency Alerts, when available

Browse is useful when you want to read news from a specific city or section instead of relying on your personalized feed.

Settings

The Settings tab is where you manage your app experience.

From Settings, you can:

  • Sign in or sign out
  • Manage notification preferences
  • Personalize your newsfeed
  • View saved articles
  • Change theme appearance
  • Adjust article font size
  • Read app policies
  • Request account/data deletion

Reading Articles

Tap any story card to open the full article screen.

Depending on your account status and the article type, you may see:

  • The full story
  • A preview with a sign-in prompt
  • A subscriber-only message

If you believe you should have access but cannot read an article, sign out and sign back in from Settings.

At the top of article pages, you may see quick actions:

Share
Share the article link through your phone’s sharing options.

Saved Articles

Saved articles are stored on your device.

To view saved stories:

  2. Tap Saved Articles.
  3. Select the article you want to read again.

Saved articles are meant as a convenience feature. If you delete the app, clear app data, or switch devices, your saved list may not transfer automatically.

Notifications

How notifications work

The app can send push notifications for selected alert and news categories.

Notification options are intentionally limited to keep alerts useful and avoid overwhelming readers.

Available notification options may include:

  • Emergency Alerts
  • Hurricane Updates
  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Mexico National News
  • Selected newsroom cities

How to turn notifications on

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Choose the alerts or locations you want.
  4. Save your preferences.
  5. Allow notifications if your phone asks for permission.

The app should only ask for notification permission when you choose to manage or enable notifications.

How to stop notifications

To stop notifications:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Turn off the notification options you no longer want.
  4. Save your preferences.

You can also block notifications through your phone’s system settings.

Account and Subscription Questions

Can I subscribe inside the app?

No. VallartaDaily subscriptions are handled through the VallartaDaily website, not through Google Play or Apple’s App Store.

The app is for reading with an existing VallartaDaily account.

I already subscribed. Why can’t I read subscriber articles?

Try these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Sign out.
  3. Sign back in using the same email address used on the VallartaDaily website.
  4. Reopen the article.

If you recently subscribed or changed your account, it may take a short time for the app to recognize the update.

Password resets are handled through the VallartaDaily website.

Open VallartaDaily.com in your browser and use the website’s password reset option from the login page.

Can I manage my subscription in the app?

No. Subscription billing and account management are handled through the VallartaDaily website.

The app does not process payments, does not use Google Play subscriptions, and does not use Apple in-app purchases.

Common Questions

Is the app different from the website?

Yes. The website remains the main place to manage your account and subscription. The app is designed for faster mobile reading, alerts, saved stories, and personalized news access.

The app is designed to open when you tap a push notification or open the app directly from your phone.

Links from emails, social media, search engines, or other websites may open in your browser. This is intentional and helps avoid confusion.

Can I comment on stories in the app?

If comments are available on a story, you may be able to read or submit comments from inside the app while signed in.

Comment availability may depend on the article and your account status.

Can I use the app without notifications?

Yes. Notifications are optional.

You can use the app for reading, browsing, saved articles, and personalized news without enabling push notifications.

Can I use the app without personalizing My News?

Yes. The Home and Browse sections work without personalization.

Personalizing My News simply makes the app more useful by showing stories from the locations and sections you care about most.
