Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 12, 2026 – Two people were reported with minor injuries Friday after a sedan lost control on Federal Highway 200 south of Puerto Vallarta, struck a rock wall, and caught fire near the Boca de Tomatlán corridor.
The crash was reported at kilometer 193, on the Las Juntas y Los Veranos–Boca de Tomatlán section of the highway, according to a public safety report from Cabo Corrientes authorities.
The vehicle ended up balanced on two wheels after the impact. Municipal personnel were nearby and moved quickly to contain the fire before it spread.
Two occupants treated at the scene
The only occupants reported in the sedan were a man and a woman. Both had minor injuries and were treated by Mexican Army medical personnel, according to the same public safety report.
PVDN reviewed the available public notices on Friday and found no report of fatalities. The names of the occupants, their ages, and the cause of the crash had not been released at the time of publication.
The report did not say whether wet pavement, speed, a mechanical issue, or another factor contributed to the crash. Drivers were urged to “conducir con precaución” and obey road signs.
Same corridor also saw a rock-and-soil slide
The crash occurred as the same Highway 200 corridor was already under the attention of emergency crews. A separate rock-and-soil slide near kilometer 194 was reported between Las Juntas and Los Veranos and Boca de Tomatlán, with debris blocking both lanes.
Small vehicles were being allowed through one side of the road while heavy machinery was requested for cleanup work, according to that notice. Drivers were told to expect delays and follow instructions from personnel directing traffic.
That section of Federal Highway 200 is the main southbound route from Puerto Vallarta toward Mismaloya, Boca de Tomatlán, Las Juntas, Los Veranos, El Tuito, and communities farther down the coast. Rain risk keeps the road under watch
The federal weather service’s Friday forecast called for very strong to intense rain in parts of central and western Jalisco.
Anyone driving south of Puerto Vallarta should check conditions before leaving, allow extra time, and watch for flaggers or emergency crews near Boca de Tomatlán and Las Juntas y Los Veranos. The federal government also points drivers to National Guard highway alerts for updates on federal roads.
