Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – A traffic incident on Friday afternoon resulted in significant property damage and traffic congestion in the southern hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta. The driver of a gray Ford Escape truck fled the scene after the vehicle mounted the median strip and struck two palm trees, a streetlight, and another passing vehicle along Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue, near the intersection of Playa de Oro and De las Américas streets.
According to initial reports, the truck veered onto the central median, causing it to knock down two palm trees and a lighting system post. During the incident, a nearby vehicle traveling on the avenue’s side lane sustained damage. The driver responsible for the collision then abandoned the heavily damaged pickup truck and left the area on foot.
In response to the incident, local Traffic Police and Civil Protection personnel arrived at the scene. Their immediate efforts focused on clearing the debris, facilitating traffic flow, and ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians. While no injuries were reported, the collision resulted in significant material damage and caused traffic congestion for several blocks, lasting more than half an hour before normal circulation resumed.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to identify and locate the driver responsible for the damages. Meanwhile, city officials urge drivers to exercise caution and respect traffic regulations, especially in high-traffic areas, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
