Tryst Fitness Puerto Vallarta debuts plans for a luxury gym, spa, and lap pool in Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romántica, built for LGBTQ+ travelers and locals.
Tryst Hospitality is placing a new kind of queer gym at the center of Puerto Vallarta’s beachside gayborhood.
The company has announced plans for Tryst Fitness, a luxury gym and wellness brand designed for the global LGBTQ+ community, with its flagship location set to open on Púlpito Street in the Zona Romántica in 2026. The nearly 11,000-square-foot space will sit on the same block as The Tryst Puerto Vallarta, the group’s boutique hotel that celebrated its grand opening in April, extending the brand’s party-ready energy from the rooftop pool deck into a full-scale fitness and spa complex.
“Tryst Fitness will be the most elevated gym experience in Puerto Vallarta,” said Tristan Schukraft, founder of Tryst Hospitality. “It is modern, calm, social, and beautiful. It is a gym created for our community and built to the level of luxury we want when we travel.”
The new concept is framed as a place where exercise, recovery, and pleasure can coexist under one roof. Architectural plans call for floor-to-ceiling windows that open to ocean air, an outdoor workout deck, and a rooftop lap pool that the company describes as the city’s only dedicated lane pool for swimmers. Inside, the main training floor will be divided into strength, cardio, and functional training zones aimed at everyone from casual vacation gym-goers to residents with daily routines.
Tryst Fitness Puerto Vallarta reimagines queer wellness
Beyond the weight racks and treadmills, Tryst Fitness is being built as a full wellness club. A 3,000-square-foot wet area will include a sauna, steam room, Turkish bath, cold plunge, and a full spa. Members will also find amenities more commonly associated with high-end hotels than neighborhood gyms, including Grown Alchemist bath products, towel service, private changing areas, and fully air-conditioned interiors for the humid Vallarta climate.
The project lands in a city that has become one of Mexico’s best-known destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers. Puerto Vallarta has spent years cultivating a reputation as the country’s gay capital, with the Zona Romántica emerging as a dense cluster of queer-focused hotels, bars, beach clubs, and nightlife. City leaders have recently approved a plan to designate the neighborhood as the city’s first official LGBTQ+ friendly district in 2026, with public funds earmarked for new pedestrian areas, inclusive crosswalks, improved street furniture, and accessibility upgrades.
For Tryst, the new gym extends a growing footprint in some of the world’s most recognizable queer destinations. The company already operates hotels and venues in places such as Fire Island Pines, San Juan, Rio de Janeiro, and Puerto Vallarta, and has joined a global LGBTQ+ travel association as a partner brand. Its portfolio mixes nightlife institutions, boutique hotels, and health-focused ventures, and the fitness club is being positioned as another piece of that ecosystem, focused on day-to-day wellbeing in a neighborhood that already draws year-round queer tourism.
At street level, the opening will place a wellness-focused anchor on a short stretch of Púlpito Street that already links the Romantic Zone’s bars and restaurants with Playa de los Muertos. By positioning the gym a short walk from the beach and the hotel’s existing rooftop pool, Tryst Hospitality is betting that visitors will be willing to build workouts, spa time, and unhurried socializing into the same days they spend on the sand.
Street upgrades and a new neighborhood hub
The gym project is not limited to the inside of the building. As part of the development, Tryst Hospitality says it is financing infrastructure upgrades along the entire block, including burying utilities and leveling sidewalks. For residents of the Amapas neighborhood, that could mean a more walkable connection between hillside condos and the busy beach zone, and for visitors, it may simply feel like cleaner lines, fewer tripping hazards, and less visual clutter overhead.
Next door, the company plans to open a 1,100-plus-square-foot neighborhood shop that blends a convenience store with a wellness-leaning market. Early plans call for healthy grab-and-go meals, fresh produce, premium liquor, and everyday essentials aimed at both locals and travelers. Combined with the gym and spa, it would create a small cluster of services that let hotel guests and nearby residents move from a morning workout to groceries and errands without leaving the block.
While Tryst Fitness is primarily framed as a members’ club, the timing aligns with a broader wave of investment into Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ tourism infrastructure. The city is preparing new public works in the Romantic Zone designed to highlight Pride colors in crossings and public spaces, add more pedestrian areas and bike lanes, and expand inclusive amenities such as pet-friendly beaches. Against that backdrop, a private project that integrates both wellness facilities and streetscaping underscores how closely the city’s tourism economy is now tied to LGBTQ+ visitors and the spaces built to welcome them.
For now, Tryst Fitness Puerto Vallarta remains under construction, with the company targeting a 2026 opening and expecting to welcome its first members by summer. If the project delivers what is promised on paper, the result will be something unusual in Mexico’s beach resort towns: a purpose-built LGBTQ+ gym and spa that treats wellness, community, and pleasure as parts of the same daily ritual, set just a few steps from one of the busiest queer beaches in the country.
