Lo de Marcos Joins The Beach Cleanup Network

Lo de Marcos has joined in and is now the twelfth community to join the Riviera Nayarit Beach Cleanup Network, which will hold its next meet-up on March 14, 2015, just before the Holy Week and Easter Week celebrations.

The new addition to this project coordinated by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau came to be via the Lo de Marcos Turtle Camp, will be working together with its 20-person strong committee plus a community delegate and several teens from the local Tele Secundaria school.

There are now more than 15 civil associations, private businesses and educational institutions that will be working together this weekend. Sebastián Gutiérrez, a student of the Harkness Institute, who alongside with his peers has cleaned the beach at Bucerías, shared his experience:

“The change is obvious because we’ve been constant. You can see there’s less trash on the Saturdays following the cleanups, but there’s always trash. I like to do this because I always feel like I’m doing something good for the environment and I know it’s a World Heritage site,” he commented.

He also reminded the community that everything we throw in the streets ends up in the ocean and he invited society at large to listen to their conscience to avoid damaging the ecosystem, which is our home. We also pointed out that people have come to them during their activities and have extended their kudos and thanked them for their work.

This project has been slowly adding in as many beach towns as possible. This event will include beach cleanups in: Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Punta de Mita, Sayulita, San Pancho, Lo de Marcos, Los Ayala, Guayabitos, La Peñita, Platanitos  and the Isla de Mexcaltitán.

For more information and comments, if you’re interested in more details about the project including the hours and meeting places or would like to propose your community join the Riviera Nayarit Beach Cleanup Network, please call 2 97 25 16 ext. 108, and someone from the Riviera Nayarit CVB will be happy to help you.
