Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Oct. 8, 2026 — Mexico’s federal tourism commission approved a medical tourism working group and advanced a quality seal review, Sectur announced Oct. 7.
COFEPRIS, Mexico’s health regulator, will provide technical feedback on revisions to the Sello Turismo de Salud, Sectur said.
Deputy Tourism Secretary Nathalie Desplas Puel chaired the commission’s first regular session of 2026, the ministry said.
Puerto Vallarta’s medical travel services
Puerto Vallarta already has providers serving medical travelers. Hospital CMQ lists weight-loss and orthopedic surgery among its medical tourism services.
According to the provider’s hospital listings, CMQ City Center is at Basilio Badillo 365 in Emiliano Zapata. Its Premiere hospital is at Avenida Francisco Villa 1749.

That scope connects the federal review to both medical providers and the businesses accommodating their patients.
Tourism standards and medical credentials
Sectur’s guide groups standards under communication, facilities, transparency, service and education. Its evaluation process includes checks of documents, facilities and equipment.
“We are strengthening coordination among institutions to support this sector and raise the quality of services,” Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora said in Spanish, in a social media statement cited by Sectur during the announcement.
A doctor’s specialist certification follows a separate process. CONACEM, Mexico’s national body overseeing medical specialty councils, says those councils evaluate and certify specialists.
According to CONACEM’s patient guidance, patients can search its public directory using a doctor’s full name. Results show certification status, the relevant specialty council and the certificate’s validity.

Air connections and tourist highways
Commissioners also agreed to convene a meeting on air connectivity and its effects on strategic international markets, according to Sectur.
The ministry said officials reviewed tourist highway routes to identify joint security actions. That effort involves the tourism security group coordinated by Ángeles Verdes, the federal roadside assistance service.
