U.S. citizen rescue in Jalisco
Jalisco authorities rescued a U.S. citizen after the FBI asked for help locating the kidnapping victim, according to information released by state and federal agencies.
The operation took place on May 22 in a mountain area between Ixtlahuacán del Río and Cuquío, north of the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Authorities also detained a man suspected of taking part in the kidnapping.
FBI report prompted the search
The case began when the Federal Bureau of Investigation requested support from authorities in Jalisco to find the missing person. After receiving the report, state and federal agencies used intelligence and investigative work to locate the victim.
The search brought together the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office, the State Security Secretariat, the Defense Ministry, and the National Guard. Agents from the prosecutor’s Specialized Unit for Kidnapping and Extortion Investigations also joined the operation.
Sources said crews used aircraft and specialized equipment because of the terrain where investigators located the victim.
Authorities rescue victim and detain suspect
Authorities rescued the U.S. citizen and reported no injuries. They have not released the victim’s name, said how long the person remained captive, or provided details about how the kidnapping happened.
During the operation, agents detained one man allegedly linked to the case. They turned the suspect over to prosecutors, who will determine his legal situation.
Officials have not said whether investigators are looking for additional suspects.
