El Pitillal, Puerto Vallarta’s largest district, will fuse the September patriotic celebrations with the patronal festivities of San Miguel Arcángel, delivering a calendar packed with cultural, civic, religious, and family events across the month. The program starts in late August and stretches through September with parades, stages, and coronations set for the central plaza.
Local authorities unveiled the plan alongside parish leadership and community organizers, inviting residents from every neighborhood and nearby communities to take part. The call to attend came from the municipal delegate of El Pitillal, joined by the parish priest of San Miguel and organizers who help anchor these traditions year after year.
Pitillal Fiestas Patrias 2025
The calendar opens on August 31 with a mojiganga caravan through the main streets that ends in the plaza, where all candidates for the Reina de Fiestas Patrias de El Pitillal make their first public presentation. A second showcase follows on September 7, with runway segments and scoring in public speaking and knowledge of local history and traditions. As of the announcement, eight candidates are registered. Finals and coronation are set for September 13, with cash prizes for the queen and her two princesses.
The calendar also marks September 12 for inclusion and celebration: an event dedicated to the diversity community will take place in the plaza. That same night, and for the second consecutive year, the Reina Gay de las Fiestas Patrias contest returns, organized by the municipal Sexual Diversity office. Both events share the same open-air stage and invite the whole community to show up and cheer.
From the Grito to the Patronal Novenario
Entertainment spikes through mid-month. On September 14, DJ acts from the 1990s era will take the stage. September 15 brings the heart of the civic program: the torch parade, flag honors, the traditional Grito de Independencia from the plaza balcony, fireworks, and a live set by Banda Perla Negra.
The following day, September 16, opens with the Independence Day parade and closes with an evening of lucha libre. On September 17, neighbors gather once more for the baile popular, a community dance that keeps the party going after the long weekend.
San Miguel traditions carry the month to a close
Religious observances begin with the novenario on September 21. Daily pilgrimages and services are planned, starting as early as 6:00 a.m. with the misa de alba and a shared community breakfast. The early start underscores how the patronal cycle weaves faith, routine, and hospitality into the neighborhood’s mornings.
Everything comes together on September 29, the feast day of San Miguel Arcángel. The day features a charro procession, a mass led by the bishop, and the arrival of the torch from San Miguel el Alto. In the evening, the plaza will light up with the burning of the castillo and a closing festival mixing mariachi, clowns, folkloric ballet, featured artists, and bands. The program runs late into the night to cap the month.
Organizers stress that these celebrations belong to everyone in El Pitillal and beyond. The invitation went to every colonia and nearby community, pointing people to the plaza as the shared stage for civic pride and patronal tradition. Expect families, parish groups, and longtime neighbors to fill the square across the month as the district steers from the Grito toward San Miguel’s day.
