Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 17, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta International Airport completed a full-scale crowd-control drill at about 6 a.m. Monday, with airport security personnel and members of the National Guard testing response procedures inside the terminal.
The exercise lasted only a few minutes and ended without incident. Airport employees were notified in advance, while aeronautical fire personnel and outside agencies were informed so they could coordinate if needed. No external emergency response was required.
The airport had warned passengers through its official X account that unusual activity could be visible in some terminal areas. The notice said the exercise was scheduled, controlled, and did not represent a real emergency.
The drill focused on crowd management and the coordination required during a situation that could affect terminal safety or operations. Public notices did not identify a specific scenario beyond the possibility of a large concentration of people.
The airport serves national and international traffic in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit. In a real disruption, security teams would need to control access, direct passenger movement, communicate with airport personnel, and determine when additional emergency support is necessary.
Monday’s drill took place while regular commercial service continued. PVDN’s daily airport report listed 42 arrivals and 42 departures, with no operational disruption attributed to the exercise.
PVR has conducted other full-scale security exercises using different scenarios. In 2024, PVDN reported on an airport simulation involving alarm activation and evacuation procedures.
Passengers who notice unusual security movements at the terminal should follow instructions from airport personnel and check directly with their airline if a flight status changes.
