Puerto Vallarta Airport Will Double Its Capacity in the Next Four Years

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) has announced a significant investment of 3.6 billion pesos for the modernization and expansion of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport over the next five years. This initiative, outlined in the Master Development Plan 2025-2029, aims to enhance the airport’s infrastructure to accommodate the growing influx of national and international travelers.

A key component of this investment is the construction of a new terminal building, which will cover an area of 74,000 square meters. This expansion represents a 134 percent increase in the airport’s terminal infrastructure and is expected to double its operational capacity. Additionally, a 1.2-kilometer overpass will be built to connect the new terminal with airport roadways, improving vehicular flow and accessibility.

“Puerto Vallarta needed and deserved a second terminal. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in our country, and the flow of passengers through its airport is increasing. In 2024 alone, it received 6.8 million visitors by air, and in line with this trend, we are preparing to provide passengers with comfortable, spacious, and functional facilities. The New Terminal Building of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport will undoubtedly strengthen this tourist destination and will allow for an increase in the arrival of more airlines and routes, which will be of great benefit to passengers,” said Raúl Revuelta Musalem, General Director of GAP.

The expansion will also include 15 new aircraft positions, over 4,000 meters of new taxiways, and 14 new autonomous migration filters in the new terminal, which are expected to improve the experience for international travelers.

Jalisco’s Governor, Pablo Lemus Navarro, emphasized the economic impact of this investment, stating, “The new Master Development Plan, together with the historic investment of 26 billion pesos for Jalisco promoted by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), is a clear demonstration that Jalisco is Mexico’s economic oasis. With cutting-edge infrastructure and greater connectivity, new opportunities are opening up for the people of Jalisco, while at the same time we strengthen our productive sectors.”

Lemus Navarro also highlighted the necessity of improved airport infrastructure to support Jalisco’s growing business opportunities, investment inflows, and attraction of major events. This project aligns with the state’s broader efforts to foster economic growth and enhance tourism.

Puerto Vallarta continues to solidify its position as one of Mexico’s top tourist destinations, with its airport handling a record-breaking 6.8 million passengers in 2024. GAP remains committed to modernizing Mexico’s airport infrastructure, supporting regional economic and social development, and promoting tourism by providing an enhanced travel experience for passengers.
