PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – Puerto Vallarta, renowned for its pristine environment, has taken a significant step towards enhancing its cleanliness as Mayor Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez handed over ten brand new compactor trucks to improve garbage collection efficiency. The ceremony, attended by representatives from social, business, and tourist sectors, emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean image for the popular tourist destination.
Addressing the gathering alongside his wife, María de Jesús López Delgado, President of the Municipal DIF System, as well as councilors and trustees of the City Council, Mayor Michel reiterated the responsibility of all Vallarta residents to uphold a clean environment. He emphasized that cleanliness plays a vital role in shaping the city’s image, allowing tourists to appreciate the destination’s pristine condition. The mayor called upon citizens to contribute to the cause by properly disposing of their waste in secure bags or containers, preventing spillage and the generation of leachates during transportation.
Mayor Michel highlighted the significance of preserving Vallarta’s reputation as a clean destination, as it serves as a selling point for the city. He expressed his confidence that the newly acquired compactor trucks, purchased with funds from the people of Vallarta, would facilitate the cleaning efforts and contribute to the overall improvement of the destination.
José Ascención Gil Calleja, the Director of Municipal Public Services, revealed that approximately 490 tons of garbage are generated in the city daily. To address this challenge, the purchase of ten new compactors has expanded the existing vehicle fleet by over 45%, bringing the total number of trucks to 32. These additional units, representing an investment of 30 million 488 thousand 500 pesos, have a payload capacity of 9 tons each. The expansion aims to strengthen and enhance the garbage collection service across the 43 routes operating daily, including those in the tourist area, subdivisions, delegations, and neighborhoods of the municipality.
The acquisition of these trucks is expected to optimize the garbage collection process, guaranteeing shorter collection times in various areas and benefiting the municipality’s over 300,000 residents. It will contribute to creating a garbage-free and pollution-free environment, leading to improved public health. The move is also expected to result in cost savings by reducing maintenance and wear and tear on the units, as well as ensuring the safety and well-being of workers by equipping them with suitable operational tools.
Mayor Michel expressed his gratitude to the councilors and municipal trustees for their support in this endeavor. He also extended his appreciation to the diligent Public Services workers who tirelessly maintain cleanliness in Puerto Vallarta, regardless of weather conditions. Emphasizing the importance of collective effort, he stated, “The cleanest city is not the one that is swept the most, but the one that gets the least dirty. All united for a clean Vallarta.”
Jesús Palacios Bernal, President of the Union of Urban Property Owners of Puerto Vallarta, praised the new fleet of compactor trucks, acknowledging that they will significantly enhance the already commendable collection service. Bernal pledged the support of the citizen association in adhering to the established collection schedules, thereby contributing to the improvement of the service.
With the keys handed over to the operators and the new compactor trucks put into motion, Mayor Michel, accompanied by his wife, councilors, trustees, and representatives of the business sector, marked a new chapter in Puerto Vallarta’s garbage collection efforts. The introduction of these vehicles is expected to streamline the collection service and ensure the city’s cleanliness is maintained to the highest standard.
