PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – A festive atmosphere filled the seaside city of Puerto Vallarta as 233 couples joined in marriage during the annual Collective Weddings event. The historic turnout marks the largest number of couples to wed at one time in the past decade, reflecting the growing popularity and significance of the celebration for local families.
Surrounded by the sound of crashing waves and the lively chords of a mariachi band, the couples exchanged vows in a ceremony led by Mayor Luis Munguía, who served as the best man. In his remarks, Mayor Munguía highlighted the importance of love and unity in families, stating, “It commits us to continue working for a better Puerto Vallarta, as we want to see them fulfilled after this new decision they have made to get married.”
The Collective Weddings campaign has become an essential initiative in Puerto Vallarta, simplifying the marriage process and making it accessible for everyone. Civil registry official Luis Alemán stressed that formalizing a union not only secures couples’ legal rights and obligations but also sets a positive example for their children and the wider community. In tandem with the Municipal DIF, helmed by President Claudia Peña, organizers also provided premarital talks as part of this year’s program.
In addition to the collective ceremonies, 49 late registrations and four child recognitions took place, while two same-sex couples celebrated their unions—further underscoring the inclusive nature of this year’s event. After the formalities, newlyweds enjoyed a toast, took part in the traditional cake-cutting, and posed for photographs with Mayor Munguía before concluding the day’s festivities.
With its record-setting turnout and heartfelt communal spirit, the 2023 Collective Weddings have not only made local history but served as a testament to Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to love, family, and community.
