Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Sept. 25, 2026 — Municipal, state and federal personnel inspected four potential emergency shelters Thursday as Hurricane Polo remained offshore.
The sites were the Preparatoria Regional, the Bobadilla sports complex, UNIVA and CECyTEJ.
DIF Vallarta said 16 buildings have shelter agreements. Civil Protection will decide when any site opens.
What the inspection means for residents
A capacity figure does not mean a shelter is accepting evacuees. DIF Vallarta said teams reviewed access routes, kitchens and sanitary conditions. It urged residents to follow official instructions before going to a site.
The inspection lists room for 600 people at the Preparatoria Regional, 302 at COMUDE’s Bobadilla complex, and 384 at CECyTEJ. It gives UNIVA’s capacity as 94 families, so the four figures cannot be combined into a single number of people.
The municipal shelter directory places the Preparatoria Regional at 21 de Marzo 500 in Loma Bonita and the Bobadilla complex at 1 de Junio 221.
Two shelter lists give different totals
In our review, a state shelter list published Tuesday named 14 Puerto Vallarta sites. It included COMUDE, UNIVA and CECyTEJ, but did not list the Preparatoria Regional. DIF Vallarta’s Thursday figure covers 16 buildings with agreements. Neither figure establishes how many shelters are open to residents.
