Puerto Vallarta’s mobile veterinary unit will continue offering free dog and cat sterilization services during May, with stops planned across several neighborhoods.
The program is run through the municipal Animal Welfare Department, which says the goal is to reduce abandonment, support responsible pet ownership, and help prevent animal overpopulation.
Citlalit Peña, director of Animal Welfare, announced the May route and said updated weekly notices will provide exact location details, available services, and other instructions for each stop.
For residents, the campaign offers a practical way to access a service that can be expensive at private clinics. It also brings veterinary care closer to neighborhoods where transportation or cost can make routine pet care harder.
May schedule for dogs and cats
The May route begins on May 5 in Lomas de San Nicolás, at Víctor Iturbide and Iztaccíhuatl.
The unit will be at Parque Lineal on May 7, 14, 21, and 28. On May 8, services are scheduled in Colonia Educación, at Normal Superior 134A, in collaboration with Dog For Life.
On May 11, the campaign moves to Brisas del Pacífico, at Eutiquio González 1129, near the intersection with Italia, by the primary school. On May 13, the stop is planned for Lomas del Medio, at Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez 923.
The route continues on May 18 in Las Juntas, in Colonia El Crucero, at Tukilandia. On May 19, the unit is expected at Palmar Ixtapa, at Cancha Palmar. On May 22, services move to the Domo de Ixtapa.
The final stops listed for May are Ramblases on May 25, at Puerto San Blas 146A, and Buenos Aires on May 29, at Plaza Solidaridad, La Rivera 395.
What pet owners need to do before arriving
Owners are asked to arrive before 8:00 a.m. Dogs and cats must be at least four months old.
Pets should fast for 8 hours before surgery. That means no food or water during that period. The city also asks owners not to bring pregnant or in-heat female pets.
