A late-night robbery report in Puerto Vallarta’s city center quickly turned into a police chase across town. Officers say the two men detained matched descriptions from more than one recent robbery, including an attack at a Versalles gas station near Conalep and a delivery truck robbery on the road to Mismaloya. The case now moves to prosecutors, where investigators will decide whether the evidence ties the suspects to a wider pattern of violent street robberies.
Police chase follows robbery report in Puerto Vallarta center
Puerto Vallarta municipal police detained two men after a reported armed robbery in the city center led to a chase and a broader investigation into other recent robberies.
The incident began in the early hours of Sunday, when police were alerted to a robbery near Libertad and Miramar streets in Colonia Centro. A man told officers that two people on a motorcycle had taken his belongings after threatening him with what appeared to be a firearm.
The victim gave officers a description of the suspects, their clothing, and the motorcycle. Police then launched a search through nearby streets and surrounding avenues.
Minutes later, members of the municipal police motorcycle unit, known as Jaguares, spotted two men on a motorcycle matching the report. The officers began a pursuit that ended near Avenida Francisco Villa, Calle Viena, and the Brasil extension, in the area near Conalep.
Police detained the two men at the scene. They were identified as Ismael Emmanuel “N,” 29, and José Fabián “N,” 23.
Replica weapon and motorcycle plates become key details
During the inspection, officers reported finding a replica handgun that looked like a real firearm. Authorities said the weapon may have been used to intimidate victims during the robberies.
Police also reported irregularities with the motorcycle’s plates. According to the information released, the plates did not match the motorcycle the suspects were using.
That detail became important because investigators said the same plates had appeared in security camera footage from an earlier gas station robbery in Versalles. That robbery happened near Francisco Villa and Calle Viena, close to Conalep.
In that case, two masked suspects reportedly arrived by motorcycle, threatened a worker, and fled with cash from the station’s sales.
Authorities also said the same men may be linked to a separate robbery involving an ice delivery truck. That incident reportedly happened days earlier while the truck was serving a convenience store along the road to Mismaloya.
The investigation is now expected to focus on whether the same motorcycle, license plates, clothing, physical descriptions, and method of operation connect the cases.
Case moves to the Ministerio Público
The two detained men were placed at the disposal of the Ministerio Público, the prosecutor’s office that handles criminal investigations in Mexico.
For foreign residents, this part of the process can be confusing. A police detention does not mean a person has been convicted. It means police believe there is enough reason to turn the case over to prosecutors.
