Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – A disturbing incident involving members of the Puerto Vallarta Citizen Security Directorate has sparked public outcry after a video surfaced showing the alleged mistreatment of a young man by local police officers. The incident reportedly took place within the Municipal Administrative Unit (UMA).
A 16-second video, which has been circulating on social media, captures the alarming scene in the parking area of the government complex. The footage shows a young man, estimated to be between 20 to 25 years old, dressed in black jeans, a black shirt, dark shoes, and carrying a red backpack. The man is seen explaining to the police that he was merely attempting to manage traffic flow.
In a shocking turn of events, the video reveals a police officer kicking the young man in the stomach. Following this, two other officers appear, engaging in what seems to be a verbal assault on the individual. The distressed young man, in tears, reiterates that his actions were aimed at directing vehicles in an alternate direction, presumably in response to a traffic incident near the Administrative Unit on Mexico Avenue, a notable tourist area.
Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, the Mayor of Vallarta, commented on the matter, stating his unawareness of the incident prior to the video’s emergence. He expressed concern over the actions depicted in the footage, noting that they do not reflect proper police conduct. The mayor highlighted that the police force is trained in appropriate detainee treatment and assured a thorough investigation into the matter.
“I’m going to investigate, I’m going to ask the commissioner (Rigoberto Flores Parra) to see what happened to the elements,” Mayor Rodríguez asserted.
When asked about potential disciplinary actions against the officers involved, Mayor Rodríguez indicated that any decision regarding sanctions would be determined by Commissioner Flores Parra.
This incident has raised significant concerns regarding police behavior and accountability in Puerto Vallarta, a city frequented by tourists. The investigation’s outcomes and any ensuing actions will be closely monitored by the public and officials alike, as they could have broader implications for law enforcement practices and civil rights in the region.
