Puerto Vallarta’s cruise port saw a 12% rise in ship calls and welcomed over 237,000 passengers from January to April 2025, generating 412 million pesos.
In the first four months of 2025, Puerto Vallarta’s cruise sector outpaced last year’s performance, welcoming 12 percent more vessels and delivering a significant economic boost to the region. Between January and April, the Port of Puerto Vallarta saw 76 cruise ship calls—up from 68 in the same period of 2024—bringing aboard more than 237,000 passengers and generating over 412 million pesos in local spending, according to the State Government.
Buoyed by sustained growth in spring, April alone proved especially strong. The National Port System Administration (ASIPONA) reports that 23 cruise ships docked last month, disembarking 65,953 passengers—7.8 percent more than in April 2024. These visitors contributed an estimated 113 million pesos to the local economy, marking a 14.2 percent increase year-over-year.
Industry analysts attribute the uptick to expanded itineraries and enhanced port facilities that have made Puerto Vallarta an increasingly attractive call for cruise lines seeking varied Mexican destinations. “We continue to see strong demand from North American travelers eager to explore Mexico’s Pacific Riviera,” said a port official. “Our focus on improving passenger services and shore-excursion options is paying dividends.”
Local businesses—from beachfront restaurants and artisan markets to tour operators—have reported higher foot traffic and revenue. Hoteliers in the downtown and Hotel Zone areas also note rising occupancy rates during cruise days, with many properties tailoring short-stay packages to match ship schedules.
As the cruise season advances into summer, authorities are preparing for further growth. Plans are underway to extend docking capacity and streamline customs procedures, aiming to accommodate larger ships and reduce turnaround times. State tourism officials hope these measures will sustain the positive momentum and translate into broader economic gains for Puerto Vallarta’s hospitality and service sectors throughout 2025.
