Puerto Vallarta records a 43% increase in foreign tourist arrivals in the first months of 2023

Puerto Vallarta (PVDN) – Mexico registered a 23.4% increase in the arrival of foreign tourists between January and February of this year, which represented the arrival of 3.7 million travelers, mainly from the United States, Canada, and Colombia, reported the Ministry of Tourism.

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, stated that this figure is compared to the same time period last year. In addition, he said that in the reference period, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta were the air terminals that received the largest number of international tourists, with 2.7 million.

The figure is 19.9% ​​more than the first two months of 2022; also exceeding by 5.2%, the arrivals of the first two months of 2019, when 2.6 million tourists arrived.

“During January and February 2023, 1.6 million international tourists arrived at the Cancun airport, this is 43.8% more than in the same period of 2022.

669,826 foreign tourists arrived at the AICM, 24.7% more than in the first two months of 2022; and the Puerto Vallarta airport received 430,713 international tourists, this is 43.1% more than what was observed during the first two months of 2022,” the agency said.

According to estimates for this Holy Week 2023, it is expected to be one of the best seasons in the tourism sector in Mexico since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This forecast was made by the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco) which expects that for the holiday period of Easter 2023, an economic spill of $160 billion pesos will be generated.

“These will be days that will bring an economic benefit that has not been seen for three years for those who are dedicated to tourism and for businessmen in this field,” explained Tejada Shaar, President of Concanaco.
