In a recent study of LGBT travelers in Mexico and their economic impact, Puerto Vallarta has slipped into third place behind Mexico City and Cancun.
The Tourism Ministry of Mexico cited reports by the global consulting firm for LGBT Travel, Out Now Global, which indicates Puerto Vallarta has fallen into third place with 14% of the market behind Mexico City with 17%. Coming in first place was Cancun with 25% of the LGBT market share for Mexico destinations.
Puerto Vallarta has been known as the “San Francisco of Mexico” and touted by the LGBT community as Mexico’s most gay-friendly city for years and boasts three out of ten hotels as gay or highly geared towards gay clientele.
The city will be hosting its third Gay Pride Puerto Vallarta event this year and recently was host to the LGBT International Business Expo, adding to the city’s long line of support to the gay and lesbian community and travelers.
