Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As part of the state’s ongoing efforts to modernize its airports, work on Terminal 2 of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is moving forward, marking a significant step in improving the region’s infrastructure and air connectivity. The terminal is set to become the first in Latin America to achieve the prestigious NET Zero certification, a milestone that highlights the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability by aiming to eliminate carbon emissions.
Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, Vanessa Pérez Lamas, recently conducted an on-site inspection to review the progress of the construction. During her visit, she underscored the importance of these upgrades, not just for Puerto Vallarta but for the state of Jalisco and Mexico’s broader tourism industry.
“This is an essential project that reflects our dedication to maintaining high standards in both environmental responsibility and tourism service quality. Achieving the NET Zero certification will place Puerto Vallarta’s airport as a global leader in sustainability,” Pérez Lamas stated.
Expanding Puerto Vallarta’s Capacity
The new terminal will span 74,936 square meters of buildings and include an 83,387 square meter platform for aircraft, significantly enhancing the airport’s capacity and capabilities. The five-story structure will feature eight contact points for aircraft, designed to accommodate the growing number of flights and passengers that the airport handles annually. These improvements are expected to increase air traffic and further position Puerto Vallarta as one of Mexico’s top tourist destinations.
Additionally, the expanded terminal is anticipated to contribute to the local economy by creating new jobs during and after construction, from ground services to hospitality roles within the terminal itself. This will further solidify Puerto Vallarta’s position as a key entry point for both international visitors and domestic travelers.

During her visit, Pérez Lamas was accompanied by José Ángel Martínez Sánchez, Director of Network and Regulated Business of the Pacific Airport Group (GAP), which operates Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Also present were Cryshtian José Amador Lizardi, the Director of the airport, and Carlos Menendez López, Deputy Director of Operations, Planning and Services at GAP.
Together, they discussed the project’s progress and reiterated their commitment to providing high-quality services while meeting global environmental standards.
