Quick Response from Puerto Vallarta Police Thwarts Phone Extortion, Reunites Lost Child with Family

PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – In a recent incident, the Citizen Security Police Station of Puerto Vallarta intervened to prevent a family in the Las Juntas delegation from falling victim to a telephone extortion scam.

The PV-405 unit was conducting their regular surveillance tour when, at approximately 4:50 pm, they received a distress call. The officers were directed to the intersection of Ricardo Flores Magón and José María Pino Suárez streets in response to a report of a missing minor.

Upon arrival, the anxious parents informed the officers that their 12-year-old son had left home to go to the store and hadn’t returned. They had subsequently received threatening phone calls stating that their son had been kidnapped, intensifying their distress as the boy was not answering his cell phone.

Recognizing the situation as a potential case of telephone extortion, the officers immediately acted. They gathered a detailed description of the child and promptly initiated a search. The child was found safe and sound four blocks away from his home.

Relief washed over the parents as their son was safely returned to them. They expressed their deep gratitude for the officers’ swift and effective response.

In the wake of the incident, the Citizen Security Commissioner, Rigoberto Flores Parra, urged the public to promptly report any similar extortion calls to the authorities. This immediate notification allows law enforcement to respond quickly and helps to prevent the crime of extortion.

Commissioner Parra reiterated the importance of community vigilance in keeping our neighborhoods safe. His message is a stark reminder that the public plays a critical role in law enforcement, and through active cooperation with the authorities, potential crimes can be prevented, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
