Restoration of Iconic Puerto Vallarta Letters Underway with Artistic Homage to Manuel Lepe

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta has embarked on a project to restore the beloved maxi letters on the boardwalk, infusing them with motifs inspired by the renowned works of local painter Manuel Lepe. This artistic initiative is being brought to life by his daughter, Marcela Lepe, and his nephew, Luis, both talented painters themselves.

Brenda Janeth Díaz Flores, the director of the Vallarta Institute of Culture (IVC), announced that the letters have undergone extensive preparation. The initial phase involved polishing the letters and repairing any broken or damaged sections with fiberglass. With these foundational steps complete, the letters are now poised to receive their new vibrant paintwork, which promises to reinvigorate this iconic attraction, a favored spot for visitors to capture memorable photos.

During the recent commemoration of her father’s birth, Marcela Lepe highlighted that this restoration project aims to more accurately reflect Manuel Lepe’s artistic legacy. Unlike the previous installation by the former municipal government, this endeavor benefits from both the authorization and the active support of the Lepe family. This ensures that the maxi letters will genuinely capture the distinctive art style of the painter, who is celebrated as the illustrious son of Puerto Vallarta.

An exciting enhancement to the restored letters is the addition of artwork on their reverse sides, ensuring that the intricate details can be appreciated from the sea as well. Furthermore, an informative plaque about Manuel Lepe will be installed, providing tourists with insights into his life and contributions to Puerto Vallarta’s cultural heritage.

The project signifies more than just the restoration of a physical structure; it is a revitalization of cultural pride and a tribute to an artist who has left an indelible mark on the community. As work progresses, the rejuvenated maxi letters are set to become a symbol of Puerto Vallarta’s rich artistic heritage and a testament to the enduring influence of Manuel Lepe’s art.
