6th Annual Riviera Nayarit open water swimming tournament

The Riviera Nayarit Swimming Association and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau extend an open invitation to the 6th Riviera Nayarit Open Water “Nado Seguro” 3-5K, set to take place on the beach at the Marina in La Crux de Huanacaxtle on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

Competition within the 18 categories begins at 7:30 a.m. These include Children, Youth, Master, Special Needs and Professional for both men and women.

This event is all-inclusive and encourages sports across the generations, accepting kids as young as 7 years of age to swim 500 meters. The distances grow exponentially with ages up to 14 years to 1.25K and 2.5K.

The 3K is the distance with the most categories, seeing as it encompasses swimmers from 15 to 70 years of age, including the group of athletes with special needs. Finally, the professional category will swim 5K and include men’s and women’s groups across all ages.

According to event organizer Belín Villasante, the 700-athlete limit has already been reached. “This year we welcomed the participation of other states in the Republic as well as the more traditional states including Nayarit, Jalisco, the Federal District and Guanajuato,” commented Villasante.

A competition of this size is only possible thanks to the excellent conditions in Banderas Bay as well as the very important coordination among the authorities as far as security, first aid and traffic are concerned.
