Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – On Tuesday, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) announced that it is closely monitoring three areas in the Pacific Ocean with the potential to develop into tropical cyclones. These natural phenomena, if their evolution continues as expected, could significantly impact the Mexican coast.
The SMN has emphasized the importance of staying informed about the current situation regarding potential cyclones, providing detailed meteorological forecasts and indicating areas with a high probability of cyclonic development. This proactive approach aims to prepare and protect communities along the coast.
One of the areas of concern is a low-pressure system located south of Guerrero and Michoacán. This system is associated with tropical wave number 14 and has seen a significant increase in its probability of cyclonic development. The SMN has reported that there is now a 90% chance of this system developing into a cyclone within the next 48 hours. This high probability is expected to persist for the next seven days. The low-pressure area is currently situated approximately 520 kilometers southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero, and is moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 16 to 24 km/h.
In addition to this, another low-pressure zone is anticipated to form south of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero. This new zone also presents a notable risk, with a 70% probability of cyclonic development over the next seven days.
The SMN’s continuous monitoring and updates are crucial as these potential cyclones could bring heavy rains, strong winds, and possible flooding to affected regions. Residents in the potential impact zones are urged to stay alert and follow the updates and advisories issued by the SMN.
